Mary ROSS (1739-1790) was the great-grandmother of Thomas Jefferson BIRD (1861-1931), the 2nd great-grandmother of Jeff Augustus "Gus" BIRD (1893-1954) and the 3rd great-grandmother of Evelyn Virginia BIRD Linton (1922-2012).

 

Mary ROSS (1739-1790) was the daughter of Reverent George Aeneas ROSS (1679-1753) & Anna Catherine VAN GEZEL (1689-1748) the emigrants. Mary was born on February 4, 1739 in Newcastle, Newcastle County, Delaware.

 

Mary married Colonel Mark BIRD (1739-1812) on December 31, 1762 in the Christ Church, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. They were married by Reverend Duch with a License signed by the Governor.

 

Mark & Mary had ten known children: Charlotte BIRD (1764–1843); Captain William BIRD (1765–1812); Captain Jonathan "John" BIRD (1767–1813); Major Ross BIRD (1770–1815); George BIRD Sr., (1774–1847); Catherine "Kitty" BIRD (1775–1844); James BIRD (1780–1780); Colonel Edward BIRD (1781–1856); Henry C. BIRD (1782–1841); Lawson BIRD (1785–?).

 

Mary died on June 10, 1790 in Alexandria, Virginia at the home of Mark’s brother Colonel William BIRD (!757-1812) and his wife Catharine DALTON (1763–1822). Mary was traveling from Pennsylvania to Bostic, North Carolina. Mary was buried on June 14, 1790 in the Christ Church Cemetery, Alexandria, Virginia.

 

Colonel Mark BIRD died in 1812 in Rutherford County North Carolina and was buried in the Concord Cemetery, Bostic, Rutherford County North Carolina.
